IS PNG ROTARY FOR ME?

Being a member of PNG Rotary is all about getting involved, giving back, and having fun. Our club meets weekly and is more hands-on than most. We coordinate at least one local service project every month to get involved. We host guest speakers to learn about business successes for inspiration and to learn about community challenges to identify opportunities to give back. We plan off-site fellowship events to have fun. While we are part of the incredibly impactful family of Rotary International clubs worldwide, we’re not a traditional Rotary Club!

WHAT IS PNG ROTARY?

PNG Rotary is a service club for people who live or work in Portland, Oregon and who consider themselves young at heart. It is non-political, non-religious, and a member of Rotary International. Rotary International is comprised of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world. Our differing experiences, occupations, cultures, and countries give us a dynamic and unique perspective. Our shared passion for service helps us accomplish the remarkable. In Rotary lingo, we put Service Above Self.

Leadership Opportunities

Our all-volunteer board of directors are passionate about providing impactful meetings, events, and service projects for our members, guests, and community.

Officers and Club Committee Chairs attend annual leadership training with their counterparts from other Rotary Clubs in Northern Oregon and Southwest Washington to make connections and to exchange ideas about successful projects and programs.

All members of PNG Rotary are encouraged to attend the annual District Training Assembly and District Conference to gain Rotary knowledge to better serve the club and to grow as leaders to advance personally and professionally.

Areas of Focus

We direct our efforts in six areas to enhance our local and global impact. Our most successful and sustainable projects and activities fall within these areas:

Avenues of Service

Rotarians channel our commitment to service at home and abroad through five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity:

WHY DO PEOPLE JOIN PNG ROTARY?

We are a community of active professionals who get involved, give back, and have fun. Our meetings, community service projects, and fellowship activities reflect these goals.

We are a place for people who are interested in getting involved through community service and don’t know where to begin or don’t have time find a volunteer project. PNG Rotary makes volunteering easy and rewarding. A wide variety of impactful, hands-on projects are scheduled on a regular basis and our members, visitors, and guests get to join in with a group of like-minded professionals.

Sign up, show up, and roll up your sleeves. It’s that easy.

We are a place for people who want to expand their social network and spend time with community-minded folks. Our “business” meetings are fun and our featured guest speakers are always insightful and interesting.

We are a place for people who are interested in professional development and leadership opportunities. Our club provides all members with opportunities to participate in the world class leadership training programs that are held each year in our district and to gain experience through service with one of our active committees. We encourage every member to challenge themselves by taking on new roles and responsibilities. All members have the opportunity to have a direct impact on our club through service on one or more of our active committees.

We are a place for people who enjoy international travel.  PNG Rotary has an active International Service Committee that coordinates with a host Rotary Club in another country to identify, plan, and complete a project every year or two, depending on member availability and interest. International service projects are self-funded and our members have traveled to India, Tanzania, and Peru.

We are a place for philanthropy. For more than 100 years, The Rotary Foundation (TRF) has been supporting the work of Rotarians, who find sustainable solutions to their communities’ most pressing needs. PNG Rotary members are encouraged to give back with donations to TRF because our local and international service projects are eligible to apply for matching funds and grants when our club maintains an annual average per-person donation of more than $100.
